INTERVIEW: Chris Webby speaks on “Webster’s Laboratory” and more

10 Mar

Connecticut rapper Christian “Webby” Webster is crazy busy these days he’s traveling for shows, working on a new mixtape, and whenever he is back home he’s recording in the studio. Instead of playing video games when he gets the chance to chill out he took the time to interview with Dirty Laces, so shout out to Webby for that! Chris Webby talks to us about who else we can expect on his upcoming mixtape, his creative process, adderall, and much more!

Dirty Laces: I heard your working with Freeway who used to work with Jay-Z and Beanie Sigel.  How did you link up with him?

Chris Webby: It was super dope; I’ve been listening to Freeway since the days of cassette tapes. It’s always dope working directly with another artist and see what their writing methods are. He’s a cool, down to earth dude too.

DL: By working with Freeway has it had an impact or change in your creative process since your last mixtape “Best In The Burbs”?

CW: My styles are always evolving due to whatever I’m experiencing in life. That’s why being on the road is so dope. I’m going places and meeting people that I definitely wouldn’t if I wasn’t doing this. I’m in Arizona as I’m typing this up actually. Fuckin’ crazy out here. Mad cacti and shit. Never seen anything like it.

Dirty Laces:  Are you working with any other rappers besides Freeway?

CW: I’m going to have a track with Apathy, who is one of the only Connecticut rappers to ever make an impact on hip-hop. I have always loved good underground rap and have a lot of respect for the dude. The two biggest rappers in CT coming together on a track should be pretty dope. Other than that, I guess we shall see. Every day new opportunities arise.

Dirty Laces:  Tell us about the inspiration of the title for your upcoming mixtape “Webster’s Laboratory” and when can we expect it to drop?

CW: I loved Dexter’s Lab when I was a kid. Not sure when it will drop, but I have a shit load of new material written already. I also have plans of an album coming eventually. Getting ready to show everyone that this shit can be done independently.

Dirty Laces: You’ve been on the road doing shows left and right how do you manage to record at the same time?

CW: I do most of my writing while I’m on the road (or in the air), and then when I get home for a little break I try to spend as much time as I can in the studio. When I’m not doing that, I get busy on the PS3. And I just got Wii too. The new Donkey Kong is crack.

Dirty Laces: What can we expect to see in your upcoming music video “On My Grind”?

CW: That video should be out within the next couple weeks. Miss Daja is in it too. That’s my homie she’s great. Definitely plan on working with her more in the future.

DL: What is in your iPod right now?  What are five things you make sure you have with you when your on the grind going from show to show and recording?

CW: Well, I obviously have the Lion King Soundtrack on me at all times. I just got the new Lupe album too, which is real dope. Five things I always have with me on the road? Adderall, my rhyme book (with a solid clicky pen), bogies (camel turkish golds/royals), vitamins, and my laptop. A change of clothes is always nice too.

Dirty Laces: Anything else you’d like to add?

CW: Not really, my adderall is wearing off. Keeping my focus on typing is becoming difficult.
