AudioDax is a two man Electronic Hip Hop band made up of members Thomas Balcom (Temble) and Matt Rivera (Krypton Flo). The pair climbed twenty feet above ground on the tree tops of DePauw University and spent hours on branches discussing their joys with music. After “Koala-ing” around for an afternoon, AudioDax became official. A band formed with a goal of creating music that will inspire good feelings and even better times. “Is it Christmas?…No, it’s AudioDax, (audiodax.com)!”
Dirty Laces: Would you like us to call you a rapper, musician, or artist? Also what is your view on the “rapper tag”?
K FLO: I don’t deny the rapper tag. It’s hip hop. But I think a lot of people might limit you if you accept the rapper tag. I definitely do more than rap. I write melodies. I sing choruses. I have a vision. If you keep all that in mind, then yeah…I’m a rapper.
Dirty Laces: What is your favorite song you have produced so far?
Temble: Definitely Right Way, it was an track I made a while before I met Matt and I hadn’t really planned on showing it to anyone. One day in the studio I pulled it up and we recorded/finished the entire song that day.
DL: What are you listening to now?
K FLO: Kid Cudi’s new album is rocking. N.E.R.D. ‘s new album is bumping too. I’ve been bumping a lot of Chromeo and Oh Land lately as well. I keep bouncing back between them and V.V. Brown’s “Stuck on Nothing” album too. If I’m really trying to get in the zone, I’ll throw on some Benny Nice and really get inspired. I’m all over right now.
Temble: Louis Armstrong, few of the ones K FLO mentioned, Skrillex, Freelance Whales, Radiohead’s Kid A and Matt and Kim’s new stuff. I would put it at a healthy variety.
DL: Twitter or Facebook?
K FLO: We connect pretty easily with fans on Facebook. So, I get to talk to my friends and fans at the same time. I love that. Twitter is definitely dope for connecting with different artists. Both are great in their own way. I’m definitely getting hooked on Twitter though.
Temble: Definitely moving towards twitter. I make a lot of people mad on Facebook when I forget to write back on their walls.
DL: Do you have an album/mixtape coming out anytime soon?
K FLO: Yeah, we’re shooting for a January release on this next one. Maybe even sooner. Who knows. It’s definitely going to have some more features, be way more complex, and push some more boundaries with our sound. I’m excited to get it done.
Temble: We will also be dropping tracks every now and then before the big January release. Keeps the hype up and it’s good to listen to the demand.
DL: Where and when is your next show? Favorite show you have done?
K FLO: Aww man, I think we are hitting up Michigan next. We just got back from upstate NY. St. Lawrence University might have been one of the best shows we’ve done. Great people, opened up for Toots and the Maytals…reggae and good people. What more do you need?
Temble: I loved the Vogue, Indianapolis show–the day before the Toots and the Maytals opener. Both matt and I were feeling great and moving the crowd. We were spot on and it was really rewarding to hear the appreciation from some brand new fans afterwards.
DL: What is your ultimate goal you would like to accomplish in your music career?
K FLO: Sky’s the limit. We’re trying to connect with as many people as possible. But we want to do it the right way. With the right team.
Temble: Although it isn’t an ultimate goal, I am dying to perform at lollapalooza and/or ACL.
DL: Also, for those who haven’t heard of you yet what would you like us to tell them about your music and who you are?
Temble: Give it a listen and you wont be disappointed. It is a quirky, genuine sound that grows on you.
K FLO: Hope you enjoy. We’re just trying two young guys trying to connect the dots. Listen to our story and you’ll see the parallels.
