You’re probably asking yourself, why isn’t that on my calender?
Well the answer is that this is a celebration my boss, @justinhustle, decided to start this year for every November from now on. If you haven’t heard, one of the co-founders of Vans, James Van Doren, passed away from cancer earlier this month. By age 72, Van Doren has created a legacy embedded in America’s culture by presenting a quality brand of shoes and clothing. In his honor, those committed to VANSvember have decided to only wear Vans shoes throughout the month of November. The Vans shoe has always been known as a standard for me. I was never a great skateboarder but I tried and I respected its culture. Since then, Vans have grown much further than its roots in skateboarding as a large spectrum of people now sport the brand. Hit the jump and join as I pay pseudo-homage to a hero by picking out my Vans preferences.
Authentics. What is known as the “Authentic” shoe was the 70s standard for skateboarders. Tony Alva, Stacy Peralta, and Jay Adams, otherwise known as the Z-Boys, made these popular. Their functionality as a skate shoe limits mostly to a relaxed style of skateboarding but their limits of being a comfortable casual shoe are endless.
Half Cabs. Great skateboarding shoe. So much comfort goes in the ankle and foot bed which not only makes for a smooth ride, but also creates a glove-like fit for your feet.
Chukka Low. Personally, I am a huge Chukka fan. I would consider their Chukka Lows to be more like an Authentic Mid because the canvas and structure combination makes for the perfect corssover shoe for me. I’m attached to the Camo Chukka Lows because they are just plain filthy.
Vault Collection. This is where it gets fun. Every month, Vans releases an exclusive shoe that is only in certain stores that carry a Vault account. Each Vault shoe takes one of the existing styles and takes a unique spin on it. More often than not, you come across some cool collaborations.
Not only are these shoes a great look but they are budget-friendly. A great shoe for great prices?! Any day of the week. I love Nike to death but Vans share the same place in my heart for sneakers. To close this Thread The Needle, I leave you with the music video The Pack did called “Vans.” If you don’t know who the pack is, members include Young L (founder of Pink Dolphin Co.) and Lil’ B (the basedgod).
