The Knocks, known for their songs “Dancing With The DJ” and “Make It Better,” came together almost by accident. The duo comprised of Ben “DJ B-Roc” Ruttner and James “JPatt” Patterson met through a mutual friend during their early days in New York City when they were both college students. After being introduced they kept in touch and slowly began sending song ideas and beats back and forth. As time wore on the guys were ready to start the next chapter of their lives; luckily for them — and for us, they were both searching for an apartment at the same time.
The Knocks give us their first jam since signing to some independent label probably based out of Brooklyn. If you’re not familiar with these guy, please take your time to get to know them.
A well done acoustic version of a song almost always gets the thumbs up from me. This is a cool listen. Great for these summer evenings we’re all looking forward to…
But really though, when it comes to bars on beats I’m usually not terribly interested, but this is a really dope song. Several lyrical gems throughout too. Bravo.
Outasight gives us a nice, short project featuring some production by the The Knocks and others. There’s a high likelyhood that it’ll be a good listen. While you’re at it, check out Rosa’s interview with Outasight.
The Knocks are making some of my favorite music out right now. They’re all over the place with their remixes, mash-ups, and original tracks. Each track seems to be cooler than the last. I’m going to throw a couple tracks in to the post, but you can also head to their MySpace (yeah, MySpace) and download all their work. CoOl.
I had never heard of Ellie Goulding before recently. The British singer/songwriter has caused quite a stir in the hip hop world, oddly enough. Her hit song “Starry Eyed” has been used by just about every relevant mixtape artist out there. The track has also been remix every which way by DJ’s and producers. Given the trend, I decided to throw a few of my favorite versions out there for y’all to hear. No applause please, no applause. Cool.
This track, by production team The Knocks, is crazy. It’s fairly recent, but it’s already creating quite a buzz with remixes and such. I’ve added the Chiddy Bang remix in to the bottom of the post, but I like the original better. Listen. Enjoy. Download. Enjoy over and over. Cool.
